Blog & latest news General Music Oceans apart day after day – A review on “Richard Marx live in Dhaka” By Ronee Posted on 6 min read 314 When I came to know the news that Richard Marx is coming to Dhaka I couldn’t believe it instantly. Like other announcement of “Metallica” and “Scorpions” are coming to Bangladesh………Oh.. I believed it when I saw it in his Facebook and Twitter.Richard Marx,a pop/rock singer, songwriter, musician and record producer for over 30 years An brilliant Artist with unique voice. On 16th May he performed in Dhaka @ Bangabandhu International Conference Hall, Agargaon. It was arranged by an event management company named “Creinse”. Actually it was a solo acoustic show with wooden guitar and piano ……..I can remember the concert of Kabir Shuman. All tickets (obviously high priced) were sold out two days ago. Richard Marx came on stage at 7.38 pm. I was remembering my childhood memories……….. When I was in school in 1990 I heard his song “Endless Summer Night” on a radio program named “World Music” of “Bangladesh Betar”. Then I bought his album “Repeat offender”. That album made me crazy of him. However he started the show with “Endless summer night” and “Take this heart” then started singing and making fun between songs…. it was like a story. Our local performers should learn from him how to communicate with audiences. He sang Now and forever, hold on to the night, satisfied, hazard, When You Loved Me and many others. Marx recorded the song Save Me (2008) with his three sons– all of them are talented musicians. To the delight of the audience, his three sons Brandon, Lucas and Jesse played guitar, keyboard and drums at the show via video in the background while Marx sang the song on stage. He paid tribute to his fellow singer Luther Vandross by performing the duo’s hit track Dance With My Father (2003) at the show. The song won 2004’s Grammy Award as the song of the year. Kazi Faisal of “Metal Maze”played guitar with Marx in the song Hazard. Marx said that he watched Faisal covering the song on You tube which was very talented. I think it was Marx’s generousy. Marx was making fun between songs making the audiences burst out in laugh. Such as, he said once a beautiful girl came to meet him. She said that she was a big fan of him listened all of his songs specially “Summer of 69”. Whole audiences laughed. Then he start playing “Summer of 69”. Audiences started singing with him. After first line he stop singing and showed artificial anger with audiences and said “Hay that’s not my song”. He continued his show till 9 p.m. and concluded with his most favourite number “Right here waiting”playing piano. It was a rare feelings for me watching my childhood dream singer live in concert. He maintained his voice same as like 25 years ago. Our singers should learn this how to take care of their voice and singing. The big disappoint for me and I think most of the Marx’s fan was that, it was an unplugged show with just one guitar and a piano. Music arrangement that we used to listen was absent. Sound system was moderate. For the first few song sound was insufficient. But after several songs it was better. However, many thanks to “Creinse”for arranging such show with fair management. It was a memorable event for me. Hope they will continue this.
