Read this on android Guitar Never Lies app:
All over the years I have seen many guitar players and sound engineers using amplitube from IK Multimedia, and the greatest yet they have delivered from my point of view is iRig. Yes,a full rig on your smartphone. So let’s check out what is iRig 2 and how it Works.
Honestly speaking,I was never very much convinced about software based fx on computers and all,but iRig convinced me to like it for several reasons. iRig 2 is the upgrade version from the first iRig, this small device ,just about near 3 inch , it has a standard TRS input jack to connect your guitar, TRS output for amp or monitor or recording interface. The new iRig has FX/Thru switch selector and gain control knob, and microphone stand velcro slot if you want to play it live with flexibility.
How does it work with your smartphone?Connections?
Simple indeed, if you have a iphone or any android device which supports “Samsung Pro audio” , you are good to go. you have to connect the iRig to your phone like the picture below, and make connections with your guitar and amp via input and output jacks. You can also have seperate monitors via headphone out jack,or late night and quite practices. The gain control knob is interesting as it gives you a bit of analog feel to control the input gain.
This is the best part, you can use apps like IK’s AmpliTube, Apple’s GarageBand and thousands more. The package comes with both free versions of AmpliTube for iOS, AmpliTube for Samsung Professional Audio devices and AmpliTube for Mac/PC. Amplitube has very nice fx and amps to use as you may have already known. And you just have to touch to operate, even you can use wah pedals by having your smartphone on hand by moving up and down or so .
Sound quality and flexibility?
Well, I would not definitely say this is totally professional, but the best option for home recording, practice and stage. But if you ask me in terms of budget, as a starter here in Bangladesh, this is the best for you.And suppose you are travelling with your family or friends somewhere, and you miss your guitar, iRig is your greatest bet yet in time.
