CHAPTER-15:6th arpeggios & chords
There are 2 types of 6th Arpeggios:
- Major 6th
- minor 6th
We describe their Formation and theory below.
Major 6th
Formula:Add major scale’s 6th note with the corresponding Major arpeggio or chord.
Example:
CM6th=C E G+A
In case of C major 6th,the main 3 notes of the arpeggio are C,E,G as we learnt from previous chapters. The arpeggio notes C,E,G are found from its corresponding scale C Major. So now we have to add the 6th note from C major scale which is A with the existing Arpeggio of C major.
C M6th Arpeggio on Guitar:
Task 1:Play C Maj6th On a metronome. tempo 120(4/4 -2 notes in each beat)
Task 2: Find out DM6TH, EM6TH, FM6TH, GM6TH using the same rule and play as Task-1
Minor 6th:
Add MAJOR SCALE’S 6th note with the corresponding minor arpeggio or chord.
Example:
Cm6th=C D# G+A
In case of C minor 6th,the main 3 notes of the arpeggio are C,D#,G as we learnt from previous chapters. The arpeggio notes C,D#,G are found from its corresponding scale C minor. So now we have to add the 6th note from C MAJOR scale which is A with the existing Arpeggio of C minor.
Cm6th Arpeggio on Guitar:
Task 1:Play C min6th On a metronome. tempo 130(4/4 -2 notes in each beat)
Task 2: Find out D min6th,E min6th,F min6th,G min6th using the same rule and play as Task-1
Final Task – Now let us try to play the following Arpeggios all together :
Gm6th, A#6th , Am6th, CM6th, DM6th, A#6th, Gm6th

Major 6th Chords:
C M6th=C E G+A DM6th=D F# A + B
EM6th=E G# B+ C# FM6th=F A C+D
GM6th=G B D +E AM6th=A C# E+F#
BM6th=B D# F# + G# BM6th=B D# F# + G#
Minor 6th Chords:
Cm6th=C D# G+A Dm6th=D F A + B
Em6th=E G B+ C# Fm6th=F G# C+D
Gm6th=G A# D +E Am6th=A C E+F#
Bm6th=B D# F# + G#
Task 1: Try to change each chord serially on 2 beats (Tempo 130)
Task 2: Now let us try to play these chords all together with the following Rhythm (Tempo 130):
Gm6th, A#6th, Am6th, CM6th, DM6th, A#6th, Gm6th.
